STEP BY STEP

Let's make something delicious.

  1. 01

Preheat the oven to 180 °C conventional (160 °C fan).

  2. 02

Cut the bread rolls into 2 × 2 cm cubes. Warm the milk in a saucepan, add the seeds from the vanilla pod and stir. Put the bread cubes in a bowl and pour over the vanilla milk.

  3. 03

Separate the eggs. Using an electric hand mixer, whisk the egg whites with a pinch of salt until stiff. Beat the egg yolks. Beat the butter and sugar until creamy, then mix in the egg yolks. Drain the morello cherries in a sieve.

  4. 04

First mix the soaked bread with the beaten egg yolks, then fold in the whisked egg whites and morello cherries. Transfer to a greased ovenproof dish, sprinkle with the flaked almonds and bake on the middle shelf for 35–40 minutes.

  5. 05

Remove the Kirschmichel from the oven, leave to cool briefly and serve dusted with icing sugar.
